The Butterfield Cottage Preservation Project

August 2024

We installed new trellises that will keep the plants away from the building and prevent future damage to the new siding. We also have placed river rock at the base of the building to help with water mitigation. A dry house is a happy house.

LET’S KEEP THE PLANTS AND WATER OFF OF THE BUILDING

NEW FASCIA ON THE BOTTOM LEVEL

The lower level of the building had new fascia installed. Extra cost was incurred when we found rotting rafter tails which needed to be fixed. She is looking beautiful now that this project is completed! Next up, gutters.

SOUTH WALL REPAIRS

The south wall of the building was re-sided with new trim installed as well.

Work was performed by Blue Jay Restoration. The Historical Preservation students from Clatsop Community College assisted on the installation of the south wall siding. We are so thankful for our wonderful community!

Thank you John Hanley for painting and getting everything ready before the 4th of July Social.

CRITTER CONTROL

I believe that I mentioned something on the preservation page about the lack of lattice leaving the under-bits of the cottage susceptible to critters. Well, we had racoons! Jack Thompson, owner of Jack Russell Home Services and Jack Russell Wildlife Control, also a museum member, suggested we put an “anti-dig” barrier around the porch before installing the new lattice. It looks great doesn’t it? Even though this isn’t technically part of the official preservation, this will prolong the life of the important stuff that holds up our building!

Thank you Jack for being a great resource and a pleasure to work with.
